During an interview with Good Morning America, “The Star-Spangled Man” revealed that John Walker is a decorated army veteran, is the first person in history to be award three Medal of Honors, and also boasts exceptional physical skills. Before taking to the stage, however, Walker revealed he has some insecurities about following in the footsteps of Steve Rogers.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Wyatt Russell, who plays John Walker in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, spoke about his approach to playing the character and his potential future in the MCU.
Russell revealed that he didn’t have to think twice about taking over from Chris Evans as Captain America “because it’s different”. John Walker is different to Steve Rogers, so he’s “not trying to do what Chris Evans did.”
While Walker’s appearance in episode 2 may have softened some fans opinion on the character, Russell revealed that “it’s fun to be the Marvel punching bag for a minute” and that’s one of the things he liked about playing the character.
Some of John Walker’s actions in episode 2 of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier may have left fans unsure about his true intentions. Russell stated “100 percent… you might want to side-eye the man for more to come.”
The fact that Wyatt’s father, Kurt Russell, has already appeared in the MCU as Ego in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 prepared him for one of the toughest aspects of the job: keeping Marvel’s secrets under wraps. When asked about John Walker’s future in the MCU, the actor wouldn’t give anything away.
Russell also revealed his method for keeping plot details a secret.
You can catch more of Wyatt Russell’s John Walker in episode 3 of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier when it released on Disney+ this Friday.
