After the conclusion of phase 3 of the MCU with Spider-Man: Far From Home there was some debate between Sony and Marvel over the use of Tom Holland and his Spider-Man character in the MCU. His current contract includes one more solo movie.
After the loss of Iron Man and Captain America amongst others and the introduction of new characters like the Eternals and Shang-Chi, they may be looking at characters like Spider-Man to help ease the transition period. Although they will look for continuity with other big players like Thor, Doctor Strange, and the Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man is the big money maker.
Sources are suggesting that we now have some good news and Tom Holland may be staying in the MCU for a while longer. If this source is correct then Disney/Marvel is looking at pinning Tom down for an additional 6 movies.
What Does This Mean For Tom Holland?
This is great news for the MCU as well as fans. With Spider-Man: Homecoming taking in over $880m and the sequel Spider-Man: Far From Home raking in over $1.1b then both Marvel and Sony will surely look to capitalize and team up on more projects.
From the reports, it looks as though Tom will finish the current trilogy and then go on to do another two trilogies. His first trilogy is set during high school, the second will follow him through college while the third installment will see him into adulthood.
While it still remains to be seen if this is true, the bigger question is whether Sony is on board with it. Now we believe that Sony is more than happy to keep the current arrangement going but let’s see.
As soon as we hear any more on this we will as always keep you posted.
