If the rumours are to be believed, Spider-Man 3 is going to have a huge impact on the future of the MCU. In October, we received the ‘shocking’ report that Jamie Foxx will return as Electro. Shortly after came the news that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange will also appear in the film and will take on the vacant role as a mentor to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. The internet was sent into a mild meltdown in December when it was revealed that Alfred Molina will return as Doctor Octopus.
The inclusion of Doctor Strange makes it’s almost certain that Spider-Man 3 will explore a live-action Spider-Verse, that will reportedly see Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield appear. Oh, and how could we forget. There are also strong suggestions that Charlie Cox has already wrapped filming his part in the film.
Fans are already excited at the chance of watching Tom Holland swinging through the multiverse with former web-slingers Maguire and Garfield. Holland himself recently stated on his Instagram that fans had “better buckle up” after stating that the day’s filming was “one of the highlights of my career.”
Speaking to Variety, Tom Holland was asked if he can tell us anything about Spider-Man 3. Given his past history of revealing spoilers in interviews, Holland wisely replied: “Obviously, I can’t really say anything.”
Despite refusing to give away any major spoilers, Holland did go on to reveal how “impressive” the film is, stating that Spider-Man 3 is “the most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made.”
Holland went on to share an update on Spider-Man 3‘s production, stating “we got a lot more shooting to do.”
At this point, the casting of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield remains an unconfirmed rumour, but more evidence is beginning to mount that they will make an appearance. Why else would Marvel and Sony bring back Electro and Doctor Octopus, right? Whatever Marvel and Sony have up their sleeves, it’s clearly got Tom Holland excited.
Spider-Man 3 is currently set to release in theatres on December 17th, 2021.
