Disney+ is set to play an important role in the future of the MCU, with a large variety of series’ already confirmed to be released on the streaming platform. At Disney Investor Day in December, Kevin Feige announced several new MCU series that will release on Disney+ over the course of the next few years. One of the most exciting of which is Secret Invasion.
Secret Invasion will be based on the 2008 comic book series of the same name. In the comic storyline, the shapeshifting Skrulls, who the MCU introduced in Captain Marvel, attempt to conquer Earthy by secretly embedding themselves in various positions of power. The Skrull sleeper agents lie in wait, before launching a multi-pronged attack both on land and in space.
At the moment, the only confirmed actors attached to the series are Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn, who will reprise their roles as Nick Fury and Talos respectively. A new report from The Illuminerdi has revealed details for three “yet-to-be-cast characters.”
The details of the three roles can be found below:
No names were provides for these characters by The Illuminerdi’s source. However, as the article indicated, “if you use Marvel Comics as your guide, it’s easy to speculate.”
They indicate that the male antagonist revealed by their source could be Dorrek VII, a Skrull Emperor who murdered his way to the throne. The younger female supporting character, is believed to be Abigail Brand. Brand was a mutant who server onboard S.W.O.R.D.S. HQ, The Peak at the time of the Skrull invasion. She played a key role in uncovering the the invasion, and helped to free the imprisoned Mr. Fantastic. She later went on to become the head of S.W.O.R.D.
Secret Invasion is reportedly set to begin production later this year. The series is currently without a release date, however, it is rumoured to release some time in 2022.
