The threat of Thanos ended in last year’s Avengers: Endgame, but a fresh rumour suggests that we may see the Mad Titan again in the MCU.
In a new report on MCU Cosmic, industry insider Jeremy Conrad has indicated that one of his most reliable sources of MCU news has revealed that Marvel Studios is exploring Thanos’s return. At the moment, the studio doesn’t have a definitive storyline in mind, it’s something “in the cards”. Whilst Thanos may have been killed twice in Endgame, the introduction of time travel and the multiverse in the MCU will easily allow the writers to bring back one of Marvel’s biggest villains.
There have also been multiple rumours recently that would allow Marvel to introduce a younger version of Thanos in future MCU movies. In an interview a few months ago, Thanos’ comic book creator Jim Starlin suggested he could return in 2021’s Eternals movie. A rumoured film starring Thanos’ brother Eron (Starfox) would also allow Marvel to explore a younger Thanos on his home planet of Titan.
As Conrad also theorised, a Nova film showing Thanos destroying the planet Xander as part of a Richard Rider origin story would also make a lot sense.
At this point in time, Thanos’ return to the MCU is currently nothing more than a rumour, however, there’s no doubt that his appearance would delight many fans.
