Earlier this year, Don Cheadle revealed that James Rhodes would make an appearance in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. That instantly brought images of Cheadle suited up as War Machine fighting alongside Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes.
The reality, so far at least, was that Cheadle appeared in the first episodes and was in attendance when Sam Wilson handed overs Captain America’s shield. The pair then shared a poignant conversation which gave viewers an idea of how the “Blip” has changed the world. Rhodey also asked Wilson why he didn’t take up the Captain America mantle, which helped us understand the reasoning behind the decicion.
In a recent interview with NME, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s lead writer, Malcolm Spellman, was asked what is like writing the scene between James Rhodes and Sam Wilson. Specifically, that it was a scene between “two Black non-Wakandan’s” having a conversation in the MCU.
Spellman was also asked if we can expect to see James Rhodes appear again in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. With Marvel’s notorious snipers probably listening in, the writer remained alusive.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see if Don Cheadle makes another appearance as Rhodey in the series. Hopefully, we’ll get to see him suit up and stand beside Sam and Bucky at some point.
Episode 3 of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will release on Disney+ this coming Friday.
