Huge News this week with a recasting of one of Iron Man‘s major characters. Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes, was played by Terence Howard in last year’s box-office smash, Iron Man. But the latest news is that he has been replaced by Boogie Nights, Don Cheadle, for Iron Man 2.
Now one of the things I was most looking forward to in a sequel was seeing “Rhodey” suit up as the weapons packed, War Machine. It was even hinted at in the first movie when Rhodey said, “maybe next time” while looking at one of Stark’s Iron Man suits. The reason for the decision to recast the actor, is being cited as a financial disagreement. I can only assume Howard’s agent tried to play hardball for more Money, and the studio called his bluff. This happens nowadays in the industry but must feel like a blow for Howard is seems to be a rising star.
The surprising thing for me is the decision to cast Don Cheadle. Not that I have anything against him but I don’t know if he has the physical presence to play War Machine, especially with such physical actors around like Omar Epps or Djimon Hounsou. I will hold judgement though until I see him in action.
