Earlier today, Marvel Studios and Disney officially announced that Black Widow has been delayed until July 9th. For those of you that are keeping up with all of the release date changes over the past year, you may have noticed that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was previously scheduled to release on that same date.
With Black Widow now set to release on July 9th on both Disney+ and in theaters simultaneously, the release date for Shang-Chi has been pushed back to September 3rd. There hasn’t been any announcement at this stage if Shang-Chi will also release on Disney+ and theatrically on the same date.
Following news of the delay to Shang-Chi, leading actor Simu Liu gave his reaction on Twitter:
Thankfully, the new date for Shang-Chi doesn’t appear to have affected any subsequent MCU movie releases. There was no update in the announcement on Eternals which is currently scheduled to release on November 5th. Hopefully, these new date changes will be the last delays we see as the world prepares to return to normality thanks to the rapid COVID-19 vaccination programme taking place across the globe.
Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings will now release on September 3rd.
