Since the Marvel/Fox merger, Deadpool has taken a backseat in regards to the MCU. We have had various rumours but no concrete news. Last year we heard Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds was being offered the biggest contract the MCU had ever seen. But as yet we have still had very few updates on a Deadpool 3 or even a reboot into the MCU.
Marvel CEO Bob Iger has stated that they will not stop making Deadpool movies. We also recently learnt that Marvel has hired the writers for the Deadpool movie. What we have now heard is a new rumour of an animated series featuring Reynolds’ Deadpool.
Back in 2017, it was revealed that Marvel Television, in association with FX Productions and ABC Signature Studios, planned an animated Deadpool series. This was planned to be written by Donald Glover and Stephen Glover. A 10 episode series was planned but fell through a year later due to creative differences.
This latest rumour comes from Bubbleblabber, who covers adult animation news. They claim that Disney is discussing the possibility of an animated R-rated Deadpool series starring Ryan Reynolds.
There are no other details on the project or whether Marvel Studios themselves will be producing it. They do claim, however, that 20th Television Animation will be developing the series. They also claim that Hulu is being considered for its distribution. With Disney expanding to include mature content with international audiences via Disney+ Star, then it would make sense for this to be added to that streaming service.
While nothing more is known of the project we will continue to dig deeper into this and let you know when we hear more.
