Hugh Jackman bowed out of his role as Wolverine after Logan back in 2017. It was a fitting end to a role he truly made his own, but the latest reports suggest that Jackman may be open to returning to the play the character in an upcoming MCU project.
Since the acquisition of Fox the rights to many Marvel characters, including the Fantastic Four and the X-Men are now held by Marvel Studios and Disney. Many fans have wondered over the fate of these established cast members. This seemed to have been answered when Evan Peters appeared in WandaVision but the season finale made that answer seem less certain.
While fans await some more clarity over the future of the X-Men characters, in particular, a recent report from Geekosity, states that their sources claim Marvel Studios have approached Hugh Jackman about reprising his role as Wolverine.
A few months ago this rumour would have been laughed off. With reports of several Sony Spider-Man characters returning like Alfred Molina, Jamie Foxx and both Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, rumours like this seem more plausible.
The report claims that Jackman previously wasn’t prepared to reprise his role because he didn’t want to undermine the results of the movie, Logan. But the insiders claim that Kevin Feige has assured Jackman this version would be a different one from the Fox timeline. This apparently has Jackman at least prepared to see a script.
The other promising notes from this are that Marvel will want the character to appear alongside Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 3.
As with all rumours we will have to wait and see what comes from this and we will of course keep you updated when we hear more.
