Last September, the planned Ghost Rider series on Hulu was suddenly cancelled just before it was about to begin filming. If you were disappointed back then that you wouldn’t be able to see the Spirit of Vengeance on screen again, news breaking today might give you something to look forward to.
According to a report from Daniel Richtman on The Direct, a new Ghost Rider project is currently being developed by Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, but it isn’t known at this time if the project will be a film or live-action series. The new project will be set in the MCU, but Richtman did note, however, that unlike the previously planned Hulu series, the new project won’t see Gabriel Luna reprise his role as Robbie Reyes from season four of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. The obvious choice — despite the terrible Nicholas Cage films — would be for Johnny Blaze to be introduced into the MCU.
It had been previously reported that Kevin Feige was keen to bring Ghost Rider to the big screen, with rumours that the Hulu series cancellation was down to Feige wanting to use the character in MCU movies.
It’s still very early days, but with Feige seemingly intent on bringing Johnny Blaze or possibly Danny Ketch to the big screen, Blade and Morbius movies already planned, the Moon Knight series coming to Disney Plus, and reports last year of Werewolf by Night joining the MCU roster, could a version of the Midnight Sons be on the cards?
