Rumours of a live-action Spider-Verse film have been circulating ever since reports that Jamie Foxx will reprise his role as Electro for the upcoming Spider-Man 3. Those rumours now seem like they are a step closer today. Reports now suggest that another former Spider-Man villain will appear in the film.
The report comes from The Hollywood Reporter who claims a source has revealed that Alfred Molina will reprise his role as Doctor Octopus. The character’s last appearance came in 2004’s Spider-Man 2, which starred Tobey Maguire as the web-slinger. With Jamie Foxx’s Electro from Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 already signed up for the movie, Molina’s inclusion now firmly ties all three recent versions of Spider-Man into one film.
With Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange confirmed to appear in Spider-Man 3 and more rumours of former stars reprising their roles, it seems almost as inevitable as Thanos that the film will delve into the multiverse.
Collider has gone one step further. They state that in addition to the casting of Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus, more former stars are already set to appear in Spider-Man 3. They state that like Jamie Foxx, “Andrew Garfield will appear in the film”. They also state that Kirsten Dunst will return as MJ, and if Sony and Marvel can close the deal, Tobey Maguire will also return.
Spider-Man 3 will release on December 17th of next year.
