Patton Oswalt is set to return for the seventh and final season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which premieres on ABC later this month.
News of the fan-favourite guest star’s return to the series appeared on CBR yesterday, where it was also revealed that he will be portraying a brand-new character. You can view the image of his new role below:
Oswalt who has played brothers Eric, Billy, Sam and Thurston Koenig in early seasons of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., last appearing in season 4. No further details of Oswalt’s new role have been released, although it would appear from the image above that he will play as another member of the Koenig family. From the dress style, it also appears that the new character will meet up with Coulson and the rest of the team when they are sent back in time to 1931.
Given the loyalty that the Koenig family has shown to S.H.I.E.L.D. in the show’s previous seasons, it wouldn’t be a huge shock to imagine Oswalt could be playing the role of the first Koenig family member to join S.H.I.E.L.D., and may also provide some back story as to why the brothers are so well respected by Nick Fury and Coulson.
The seventh season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premieres on Wednesday, May 27th on ABC.
