The report comes via Deadline, who have reported that Marvel Studios has tapped Egyptian director Mohamed Diab to direct the Disney+ Moon Knight series, although there hasn’t been any official confirmation from Marvel or Diab’s representatives yet. It’s also unclear if Diab will be the sole director of the series or if the role will be limited to a handful of episodes.
Diab is most well known for directing in his native Egypt, however, his 2016 film Clash was selected for the Cannes Film Festival. The film also has an incredible 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Moon Knight will be the director’s first major production in the US, and it doesn’t come much bigger than the MCU. Given Moon Knight‘s links to the Egyptian Moon God, Khonshu, Diab’s background lends itself perfectly for the director’s role.
With the initial slate of MCU Disney+ series such as WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki now entering the final stages of production, it seems Marvel Studios are already beginning to prepare for the next batch of shows to hit the platform. In the past months we’ve seen a host of rumours for Hawkeye, She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel.
Moon Knight is currently expect to release on Disney+ some time in 2022.
