In recent months, a number of stars have gathered in Sydney, Australia to begin filming Thor: Love and Thunder. The fourth film in the Thor franchise is set to draw from The Mighty Thor run of comics, with Kevin Feige confirming at SDCC in 2019 that Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster will become the Goddess of Thunder.
In addition to the return of Portman, Thor: Love and Thunder is building a stellar cast of characters. Chris Pratt, Tessa Thompson, Dave Bautista and Karen Gillan have all been spotted in Australia ahead of filming. Kevin Feige has also confirmed that Christian Bale will play the role of Gorr the God Butcher in the film.
There are also rumours of Idris Elba returning as Heimdall and that Jamie Alexander will return as Lady Sif. The latest report comes from news.com.au who state that Matt Damon arrived in Sydney on a private jet yesterday, and is now serving his mandatory quarantine before joining the set of Thor: Love and Thunder.
Damon is no stranger to the MCU. The star made a small cameo appearance in Thor: Ragnarok as an actor playing the role of Loki in an Asgardian stage play.
It’s unknown at this stage what role Damon will play in Thor: Love and Thunder. The Hollywood A-Lister is a known friend of director Taika Waititi and could be there for another cameo role. Given the quarantine requirements, it seems more likely that Damon will have a larger role this time around. Only time will tell!
Thor: Love and Thunder is currently scheduled to release on February 11th, 2022.
