As promised, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix have today shared more details about the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers game via their first War Table live stream. Below is a brief roundup of some of the stream’s key points.
Marvel’s Avengers Plot Details
To begin with, the team kicked off the stream with a brand new trailer which revealed more details about the game’s story. Taking place five years after A-Day, the Avengers are forced to reassemble to protect the world from AIM (Advanced Idea Mechanics), who are deploying weaponised robots in an attempt to rid the world of superpowers. At the head of the ‘security’ company is George Tarleton, otherwise known as MODOK (aka the Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing).
Following the MODOK reveal came a glimpse at one of the game’s Hero Missions involving Thor. The mission showcased the God of Thunder’s close-quarters melee combat, long-ranged attacks, and some ultimate abilities that will help make light work of larger enemies.
Customisation and Gear
Each of your heroes includes a skill tree that will help you unlock new abilities based on how you want to play the game and gear that can be upgraded. You’ll also be able to customise each character with “dozens” of cosmetic items taken from Marvel’s vast history. Some outfits will be unlocked as you play the game, whilst others will only be available in the game’s store.
Co-op War Zones
War Zones are missions that you can play with up to three other friends or solo with AI-controlled team members. Each co-op mission is set in the game’s story and will see you team up with Inhuman resistance groups, former SHIELD members and even Nick Fury. You can watch the trailer for War Zones below, and see some of the special two-person finishing moves that you and your friends can use to take down larger enemies.
Lastly, Crystal Dynamics revealed that more details about Marvel’s Avengers will be released in future War Table streams, including details on the game’s first post-launch hero, the upcoming beta and more.
Marvel’s Avengers will release on September 4th for Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam. The game will also be available on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Players who purchase a PS4 or Xbox One version of the game will get a next-gen upgrade for free.
