Filming for Thor: Love and Thunder is due to begin in the coming days in Sydney, where a cast of characters worthy of a full-blown Avengers movie have been assembling in recent weeks and months. Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan and Dave Bautista have already arrived in Australia to star alongside Thor actor Chris Hemsworth. We’ve also received confirmation that Christian Bale will play the film’s villain, Gorr the God Butcher, as well as the return of Natalie Portman as Jane Foster. There are even reports of Matt Damon arriving in the Emerald City for a role in the film.
One character who has been rumoured to return is Jaimie Alexander’s Lady Sif. The warrior’s last appearance in the MCU came four years ago in season 2 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Her last MCU outing on the big screen came in 2013’s Thor: The Dark World. Reports in December seemed to confirm that she would reprise the role in Thor: Love and Thunder, and a recent flight to Atlanta hinted she may return even sooner in the upcoming Disney+ series Loki.
Whilst we don’t have the official word at this point in time that Jaimie Alexander is returning as Lady Sif, a new post on the actor’s Instagram account almost confirms it. Similar to her post when she was heading to Atlanta, Alexander has taken a selfie on board a flight with the caption “Off to the land down under ✈️ #sydney ⚔️”. Coincidence? I think not!
Whilst this isn’t official confirmation that we’ll see Lady Sif again in the MCU, Alexander’s flight to Sydney days before production on Thor: Love and Thunder is a strong hint. Hopefully, if Lady Sif does return, we’ll learn where she as been and why she was unable to help Thor fight Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, or where she was when Thanos was about to wipe out half of all life.
Thor: Love and Thunder is currently scheduled to release on May 6th, 2022.
