During Thursday’s Disney Investor Day stream, Kevin Feige provided an update on the previously announced Black Panther 2 movie.

To begin, Feige acknowledged the passing of lead actor Chadwick Boseman, who sadly lost his secret battle with colon cancer in August. Since his death, fans have been left to wonder how Marvel Studios will move forward with the franchise. Kevin Feige has now confirmed that Marvel will not recast the role of T’Challa out of respect for his “iconic” portrayal of the King of Wakanda.

I wanted to acknowledge the devastating loss of a dear friend and member of the Marvel Studios family. Chadwick Boseman was an immensely talented actor and an inspirational individual who affected all of our lives professionally and personally. To honour Boseman’s work on Black Panther, Feige confirmed that Marvel will continue to explore the characters and Wakanda setting in Black Panther 2. Writer and director Ryan Coogler hard at work on the sequel.
