Before Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige took control of all of Marvel’s productions in 2019, Marvel Television released several series’ that were loosely connected to the MCU. The most popular of those series were arguably ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Netflix line-up which consisted of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, The Defenders and The Punisher.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ended last year following its 7th season, while Netflix cancelled the different series from its connected universe of characters during 2018 and early 2019. Since the various shows ended, there have been multiple rumours that Marvel Studios may look to bring some of them back into the MCU. Daredevil‘s Charlie Cox has reportedly wrapped filming on Spider-Man: No Way Home, and there have been recent reports that Krysten Ritter will reprise the role of Jessica Jones in She-Hulk. Chloe Bennet, who played Quake in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., has twice denied reports that she is to appear in an MCU series on Disny+. Most recently, rumours have linked Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson with a return.
Speaking at the Television Critic Association Winter 2021 Tour, Kevin Feige was asked directly if any characters from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. could appear in the MCU again. Managing Editor of Fandom, Eric Goldman, revealed Feige’s reply on Twitter.
In a separate interview, Feige was asked about the possibility of any of the Netflix lineup of characters making a return now that all of their rights have returned to Marvel. Decider reported on Twitter that Feige stated that he thinks “they probably could.” His full reply can be seen below:
Unfortunately, Feige’s replies didn’t offer a confirmation or denial, although it was unlikely that he would give anything away at this point in time. For fans who have been campaigning for the return of their favourite characters, it does leave the door open that we may see them again at some point in the future.
