Kevin Feige Addresses Potential of Young Avengers in the MCU

Phase 4 of the MCU has got off to an exciting start thanks to the popularity of WandaVision, and the premiere of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier earlier today on Disney+. While the first two projects from Marvel Studios have so far concentrated on catching up with familiar characters, the next few of years will see the introduction of several new heroes from the world of Marvel comics.

Some of the new characters will be introduced alongside established heroes, as was the case with Billy and Tommy (or Wiccan and Speed) in WandaVision and Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop in Hawkeye. Others such as Kamala Khan in Ms. Marvel will appear in their own shows on Disney+.

Fans have noticed that many of the new characters set to appear in phase 4 are very young. This has led to speculation that Marvel Studios are gearing up to introduce the Young Avengers at some point in the future. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was asked about the possibility of the Young Avengers appearing in the MCU.

As a comic fan, anything in the comics is always our inspiration and our guide point. How those things come together and in what shape, it’s always subverting expectations, it’s always half the fun as meeting them. But, yes, you can certainly see that Phase 4 is introducing all sorts of new types of characters with the potential being endless. Now, all of us at Marvel Studios feel like Nick Fury at the end of Iron Man 1, as new actors and new performers come in and we tell them they’re part of a bigger universe. They just now have to do the work required to build their audience. I’m happy to say everybody that’s here, certainly where I’m sitting now, is doing amazing work and [I] can’t wait to show them the world.

While Feige failed to mention the Young Avengers specifically, it’s hard to miss that many of the characters being introduced during phase 4 were members of the team in comic books.

We’ve already seen the first appearance of a very young Wiccan and Speed in WandaVision. The pair have been rumoured to appear again in Doctor Strange 2.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will also introduce America Chavez aka Miss America. The character will be played by Xochitl Gomez

As mentioned previously, Hailee Steinfeld will play a prominent role as Kate Bishop in Hawkeye. The star recently confirmed that she has signed a multi-project deal to appear in the MCU.

During December’s Disney Investor Day presentation, Kevin Feige revealed that the role of Cassie Lang has been recast in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Kathyrn Newton will now play the role. While there hasn’t been any confirmation from Marvel Studios as to why the role was recast, many have speculated that they decided to recruit a higher profile actress as Cassie will have a larger role in the MCU’s future.

Rumours that Eli Bradley will appear in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier circulated earlier this year. The character went on to be known as Patriot in the Marvel comics. We won’t have long to wait to see if those reported were true or not.

While Marvel Studios are currently keeping tight-lipped about the team joining the MCU, it seems like its only a matter of time before the Young Avengers make and appearance.
