After Disney acquired 21st Century Fox in 2019, it was evident that the Fantastic Four would get a cinematic debut in the confines of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At San Diego Comic-Con in July of the same year, Kevin Feige announced that a Fantastic Four movie was in development at Marvel Studios. This was a momentous moment for marvel fans. Marvel’s First Family deserves a reboot after the last film directed by Josh Trank in 2015. Fan castings have been happening since it was announced that their rights were coming home. Two fan favorites are John Kransinski and Emily Blunt for the roles of Mr. Fantastic and The Invisible Woman.
It has been reported by Small-Screen that the married dynamic duo is indeed in talks with Marvel to portray Reed Richards and Sue Storm. In the piece, inside sources at Marvel are quoted in saying,
Both John and Emily have a history with Marvel Studios. John Kransinski auditioned for the role of Captain America before losing the role to Chris Evans. Emily Blunt auditioned for the role of Black Widow before it inevitably went to Scarlett Johansson. While it is a shame we couldn’t see the two of them in these roles, everything worked out for the best and now we can have them portray one of Marvel’s most famous couples. According to Small Screen, Marvel had no comment when they were asked about this report. On the other hand, John Kransinski has had a very different approach to commenting on such reports, when asked in an interview he had this to say:
This interview is dated but since then we have had many hints towards this casting even as far as having the comic book illustration in Fantastic Four #25 looking just like Krasinski himself. While this stays as a rumor until directly announced by Feige himself, all of the signs are pointing to this casting and we can certainly hope so.
