The Sony Universe of Marvel Characters continues with the introduction of Morbius, which is the second of Sony’s Marvel movies that are adjacently connected to the MCU following Venom‘s release in 2018. Morbius releases in theaters on January 22nd, 2022, after being delayed three times before.
Morbius follows the story of biochemist, Michael Morbius (Jared Leto). In an attempt to cure a rare blood disease, he uses the blood of bats. A side-effect of the treatment causes him to become The Living Vampire.
In a recent interview with Variety, Jare Leto discussed the experience of making his first movie based on Marvel comics. He admitted that the role was challenging and was similar to himself in ways other roles he has portrayed were not:
Leto considers himself a method actor, often he plays roles that require him to act extremely differently than he does himself. Michael Morbius is essentially a real man who is trying to figure out how to cure himself. Jared found this to be a challenge as he finds attributes in himself similar to that of Dr. Morbius. When asked about the experience of making a comic book movie, he had this to say:
This is likely to be a new experience for Jared as he has not starred in a superhero movie before. He did portray Joker in 2016’s Suicide Squad but that was much smaller of a role so portraying the lead-role of Morbius is very much a new test for the actor. It will be exciting to see him bring Morbius “The Living Vampire” to life on the big screen next year!
