Jamie Foxx is in the final stages of agreeing to reprise his role as Electro in the upcoming Spider-Man 3.
Foxx last played the role of Maxwell Dillon in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which starred Andrew Garfield as the web-slinger. The report comes from The Hollywood Reporter, with confirmation that Foxx will play the role of Electro once again in Tom Holland’s third Spider-Man movie. They also revealed that most of the cast from the Homecoming and Far From Home will return. Those cast members include Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon and Tony Revolori.
Story details for the third Spider-Man movie remain a secret. At the time of writing, there’s no indication if Foxx’s Electro will be the same character as the one from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 or if it will be a new version. There are rumours, however, that they could be the same character and Electro will appear as a result of Scarlet Witch cracking open the multiverse in this year’s WandaVision.
This isn’t the first time that an MCU Spider-Man film has brought an actor back from a previous iteration of the Spider-Man franchise. Last year’s Spider-Man: Far From Home saw J.K. Simmons return as J. Jonah Jameson. The actor has since gone on to confirm that he has signed on to appear in the future and has since revealed he has already filmed his next cameo.
Spider-Man 3 is set to release on December 17th, 2021. The most recent reports have suggested the production will begin early next year, although THW is stating that cameras will role this fall. Jon Watts will return to direct the film, with Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige producing.
