Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is still in its early stages of production but fans are very excited to see the team on the big screen again. Director James Gunn has spoken recently about how one of the teams favourite characters is gone for good.

The guardians have evolved since they were first introduced into the MCU in 2014 until they were last seen in Avengers: Endgame in 2019. They were last seen leaving Earth along with the God of Thunder, Thor and we will next see them in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder where filming has recently started. It appears though, the Guardians have already finished filming so will likely have to wait until Vol. 3 to see them in any real capacity.

In a recent Q&A session on Instagram, James Gunn was asked whether we will see the original adult version of Groot again. The answer was quite interesting.

Sadly that original Groot is no longer with us, so unless there is a prequel of some type we won’t see him again.

This means that we will not see the first version we met of Groot, but it also hints (I know I’m grasping at straws here) of a possible origin story to the character. This is something I’m sure many fans would be in favour of.
