Earlier this month, reports suggested that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will begin filming in the latter half of 2021. The report also indicated that production will head to the UK. This aligns with a previous report from late 2020 that stated that production on the threequel would begin in late 2021.
Director James Gunn has previously said that this will be the final outing for the current iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy lineup and has also stated that he has no plans for making a fourth Guardians movie.
Today, James Gunn has confirmed when filming for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will begin on Twitter. The director was asked “Will #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy Vol. 3 start filming in 2021?” His reply was short and to the point: “Yes.”
Plot details of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 are currently scarce. We know that the cast members that left earth at the end of Avengers: Endgame have recently been filming Thor: Love and Thunder in Sydney, Australia. Their roles appear to be short, however, as it has since been revealed that they have already left the county.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently expected to release some time in 2023.
