Chadwick Boseman’s future in the MCU may be coming to an end. The actor is reportedly in the middle of a Contract dispute with Marvel ahead of the highly anticipated sequel to 2018’s Black Panther. Is Boseman about to make the same mistake Terence Howard (War-Machine) did after Iron Man, as seen in a previous post?
Black Panther is one of Marvel’s most successful Stand-alone films to date. It took over $1.3 billion in theaters and received several nominations at the Academy Awards including Best Picture.
But despite this success, T-Challa (Black Panther), never received a lot of screen time in Avengers: Infinity War or Avengers: Endgame, causing fans to cast doubt on the character’s future in the MCU. One insider stated to We Got This Covered that Boseman is at a standstill over a pay increase.
What if Boseman Leaves?
The above source suggests that Marvel have a backup plan and are wanting to use Namor (The Sub-Mariner) as the replacement to T’Challa. Rumours of Namor joining the MCU have been around for a while now and Black Panther 2 would be a good place to introduce him, but as a replacement? We will have to see.
If they were to replace T’Challa the more logical option would be his sister Shuri who was played by Letitia Wright. She has already shown she is a capable warrior and almost outshone T’Challa in the first movie. Almost. This is something that happened in the comics so it is a storyline they can go down if they need to.
With Black Panther 2 not due for release until May 2022, making this one of the longest awaited sequels in the MCU, Marvel are being very tight lipped on any info regarding the follow up film, so we will need to wait and see what news comes out in the coming weeks and months.
