Ironheart will be based around the genius, teenage inventor, Riri Williams, who built her own version of the Iron-Man suit in an MIT dorm.
She was created by writer Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato, and first appeared in 2016’s Invincible Iron-Man No.7. Not only has Riri featured as the heroine Ironheart, but she has also taken over the role of Iron-Man for a time.
Marvel also announced that the titular character would be played by Dominique Thorne. Thorne’s breakout role was in If Beale Street Could Talk and she will follow up with the Warner Bros. film Judas and the Black Messiah.
Ironheart is one of ten series, including Secret Wars and Armor Wars, that will roll out on the Disney+ streaming service over the next few years. Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige says the upcoming shows and films will all weave into one another.
