With the recent news that Hawkeye will be introducing several new characters to the show, the one that stands out the most is Echo. Combining the introduction of Echo, along with the rights to the Netflix characters reverting back to Marvel, they are able to bring in the popular Daredevil Villain, Wilson Fisk, AKA Kingpin.
Many fans, as well as the cast of the Netflix show, were pushing for another series but due to the contract rights, all of the Netflix Marvel shows were cancelled. Vincent D’Onofrio, who portrayed Kingpin in Marvel’s Daredevil, even started a “save Daredevil” campaign to have the show extended or taken up by Marvel Studios. He even stated he would love the character to appear in the upcoming Spider-Man 3 movie. But there may be a more seamless way to introduce the character to the MCU.
How could Kingpin enter MCU?
Now that Hawkeye has cast Maya Lopez and her father William Lopez, it would be a perfect opportunity to introduce the villain to the MCU.
In the comics, William Lopez worked for Fisk as a mob enforcer until Fisk has him killed. With his last dying breath, William asks Fisk to take care of his daughter Maya. Fisk honours the wish and raises Maya as his own until he eventually uses her in a plot to take down Daredevil, claiming the vigilante killed her father. Maya eventually discovers the truth and turns on Fisk becoming a superhero.
Given the relationship between the three characters, it would be a missed opportunity for the show to not touch on Maya’s background and at least mention Kingpin. And let’s be honest, the Kingpin is too big a villain for the MCU to let go to waste.
Many fans would love to see the Kingpin join the MCU and even for D’Onofrio to reprise the role. What are your thoughts? Would like the role to be re-cast or do you want to see D’Onofrio reprise his role?
