Following the news late last year that the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 script is complete, fans have been eager to find out more about the upcoming film. Earlier this week, Marvel Studios obliged by revealing a new logo and a May 2023 release date.

Director James Gunn has already stated that he won’t be making a Guardians of the Galaxy 4. Gunn recently doubled down on that statement on his Twitter account when he tweeted he’s planning on it being his last film in the franchise. That has left many fans wondering what will happen to Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, Groot, and Mantis.

In a recent interview with Digital Spy Magazine, Dave Bautista who plays Drax in the MCU revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is “probably going to be the end” for his character.

I mean, as far as my obligations, I’ve got Guardians 3, and that’s probably going to be the end of Drax.

Bautista also went on to reveal that James Gunn had pitched a spin-off film starring Drax and Pm Kementieff’s Mantis. While the project sounds interesting given the pairs comedic relationship in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Marvel Studios haven’t followed up.

There were talks for a while about a Drax and Mantis film,” Bautista revealed. “It was really because it was James Gunn’s idea. He really wanted to do a Drax and Mantis film. He laid it out to me. I thought it was such a brilliant idea, but I haven’t heard any follow-up from the studio. I don’t think they’re very interested, or it doesn’t fit into the way they have things mapped out.

Whilst GotG3 could be the last time we see Bautista take on the role of Drax the Destroyer, we can expect to see more of him before the film releases. Bautista was present in Sydney, Australia along with his fellow co-stars to film Thor: Love and Thunder. He will also appear in the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special that is set to release on Disney+ late next year.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will release on May 5th, 2023.
