While any casting announcements from Marvel Studios are seemingly non-existent at the moment, fans are left speculating when it comes to new cast additions to the various projects the studio is currently working on. This has been the case with Hawkeye. While we have had confirmation that Kate Bishop will appear in the show, we have not yet had confirmation of who will play her. Over the last six months or so we have had lots of evidence pointing to Hailee Steinfeld taking on the role, but this is still not confirmed.
The latest rumoured addition to the cast comes from The Direct, who say, Florence Pugh, who will take on the role of Yelena Belova in the upcoming Black Widow movie, will feature in the Hawkeye series. On top of this, The Direct, state she will don a “Ronin inspired costume”.
Yelena Belova as Ronin?
This rumour is quite interesting as there may be more significance to the costume than first meets the eye. Ronin is the alter ego of Clint Barton AKA Hawkeye and was featured in Avengers: Endgame, where he was seen killing the various Yakuza members.
There have also been recent rumours that the heroine “Echo” will be introduced in the series, who has also donned the mantle of Ronin at one point in the comics.
Despite various characters taking on the mantle in the comics, this is the first time that it has been linked to Yelena. With previous comments suggesting that Yelena will be handed the baton for Black Widow, it leaves many questions for fans of how she will arrive at this point in the guise of Ronin.
The difference in time between the Black Widow movie and the Hawkeye series means there are many possibilities and events that could have happened. She may be there offering support with the training of Kate Bishop. We are also unsure of exactly how big a role Pugh will play in the series. She may have a small part to play or be a fundamental character who will feature heavily.
Either way we will have to speculate a while longer as the show is not due to air on the streaming service until late 2021.
