Actor Simu Liu and director Destin Daniel Cretton have taken to social media to confirm that filming has finished on Marvel’s upcoming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Filming was halted earlier in the year when the coronavirus pandemic hit not only the entertainment industry but the world. Filming commenced a few months ago and finished this week.
Shang-Chi will introduce the world to a character that was introduced in the ’70s as an answer to TV program Kung Fu. While the original comic version was steeped in “Fu Manchu” stereotypes, the big-screen adaptation will have an Asian cast and crew in front of and behind the camera hopefully averting any such stereotypes. Plot details are still unknown but from what we have seen of the set it looks very interesting.
Shang-Chi is Marvel’s first film to feature an all Asian cast and is due for release July 9th 2021. Image credit goes to MCU Portal.
