Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently filming in London. Many fans were already excited for the Doctor Strange sequel already, but the announcement that the film will continue Wanda Maximoff’s story from WandaVision has added more intrigue to the project.
While WandaVision was filled with magical scenes, there didn’t seem to be much of a direct connection between the series and Stephen Strange. The nearest we got was a mention of the Sorcerer Supreme from Kathryn Hahn’s character Agatha Harkness. The series’ final post-credit scene may have provided the only real clue of how Elizabeth Olsen’s character will fit into the upcoming film.
The second Doctor Strange film is being directed by Sam Raimi, who has been described by Benedict Cumberbatch as “amazing” in a recent interview. While the film is still in production, Raimi took time out from his schedule to take part in an AMA on the r/movies subreddit to help promote his next movie, The Unholy.
One of the questions submitted by Reddit user u/RespectThyHypnotoad praised Raimi for his previous work and asked the director if he’d watched or had any input in WandaVision. The user also praised Elizabeth Olsen’s performance in the series and stated their excitement to see her under Raimi’s direction.
Raimi’s reply was short and sweet, confirming that some of the WandaVision team have helped him out with Doctor Strange 2, but he had no input in the Disney+ series.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is expected to release on March 25th, 2022. The film will star the returning Benedict Cumberbatch alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, and the surprising addition of Bruce Campbell.
