Disney+’s What If…? Series Gets a New Release Window

Marvel Studios launched phase four of the MCU on Disney+ with the release of WandaVision in January. The studios’ second series followed quickly after with the premiere of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in March. Over the course of the summer, two new series will follow. First up we have Loki which is set to release on June 9th. The second release is Marvel Studios’ first animated series, What If…?, which doesn’t have a release date at the time of writing.

In April, Marvel updated the What If…? website page to include a new synopsis which confirmed the show will release this summer. That release window has now been narrowed down to August, thanks to a new Summer Preview article published on Entertainment Weekly. Unfortunately, the exact release date for the series still hasn’t been announced.

What if instead of Steve Rogers, Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) actually became the first Super Soldier? That creative brainstorming exercise is the heart of What If…?, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first animated series. The anthology reimagines numerous major events from the movies in game-changing ways, and also features Chadwick Boseman, who was able to reprise T’Challa via voice work before his death.

What If…? will reportedly run for 10 episodes, which means that the series will continue into mid-October or beyond. With several MCU films set to release later this year, starting with Shang-Chi on September 3rd, it’s quite likely that What If…? will follow the trend set by Loki, with weekly each episode dropping on a Wednesday.

What If…? is now set to release on Disney+ this August.
