Reports that actor Charlie Cox will reprise his role as Daredevil in Spider-Man 3 refuse to go away. With the return of the character’s rights to Marvel Studios late last year, news quickly followed that the star was set to return to the MCU alongside Tom Holland. The latest report on the subject comes from episode one of the Phase Zero podcast, where Comicbook.com’s Brandon Davis revealed that Charlie Cox was on the Spider-Man 3 set in December.
Phase four of the MCU is now in full swing following yesterday’s premiere of WandaVision on Disney+. Over the coming years, fans are set for a wild ride in what some are calling the “Multiverse saga”. Spider-Man 3 has been confirmed to be included in the multiverse story arc, with Doctor Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch set to appear in the film as a mentor to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.
The sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home is also heavily rumoured to be a live-action Spider-Verse film with previous web-slingers Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield set to appear. There are also reports of multiple former actors such as Kirsten Dunst and Emma Stone returning to their roles alongside Jamie Foxx’s Electro and Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus.
As indicated by Davis, it’s currently unclear if Daredevil will appear as the same character from the Netflix series or as a new version. Fortunately for Marvel Studios, the inclusion of the multiverse gives them room to change the character as they wish, whilst still keeping fan-favourite actor Charlie Cox on board. It also allows them to explain why Daredevil and the rest of the Netflix characters weren’t there to help in the battle against Thanos.
When asked in a recent interview if Cox would return, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige remained coy on the subject. Rather than giving a direct answer, Feige simply looked at the camera and smiled.
Spider-Man 3 is currently set to release in December.
