The rights to Daredevil are set to revert to Marvel Studios at the end of this month following the series’ cancellation by Netflix two years ago.
The Netflix series Daredevil premiered in 2015 and starred Charlie Cox as the blind defence attorney and secret vigilante crime-fighter Matt Murdoch. Three seasons of Marvel’s Daredevil was produced by the streaming giant before it was axed in 2018. The character also made an appearance in the team-up series Marvel’s The Defenders in 2017.
Whilst Marvel Studios retained the rights to Daredevil and the other Marvel characters used by Netflix; they were contractually unable to use them in any films of TV shows for two years. With that two-year period now coming to an end this month, fans have become excited that we may see Matt Murdoch in the MCU again.
Rumours that Daredevil could make an appearance in the upcoming Spider-Man 3 film began to gain traction earlier this year. Unfortunately, fans were left disappointed when Cox revealed that he wouldn’t be involved. With filming for Spider-Man 3 set to start soon, fans of the #SaveDaredevil movement on Twitter will be hoping that Kevin Feige has had a change of heart.
With Daredevil now available to Marvel Studios once again, could we possibly see the series brought back to life on Disney+? Or maybe an appearance in one of the upcoming phase 4 films is already in the works? Of course, it may be the case that Marvel chooses to reboot some or all of Netflix’s Marvel characters in the future completely.
How would you like to see Daredevil return to the MCU in the future?
