An MCU Blade movie was originally announced by Kevin Feige at 2019’s San Diego Comic-Con, but we still don’t know much about the upcoming project. Mahershala Ali is confirmed for the starring role as the ‘Day Walker’, and it was recently revealed that Watchmen writer Stacy Osei-Kuffour has signed on as the film’s head writer.
We also know that Blade will have a PG-13 rating after Feige recently confirmed that only Deadpool 3 will be R-rated. With filming reportedly set to begin later this year, fans have been wondering when Blade will release. Fortunately, the character’s co-creator, Marv Wolfman, may have given us a hint — and it may be closer than you thought.
The comic book writer posted a recent update on Facebook where he wrote about the soon to be released Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The post revealed his excitement that characters like Deathstroke and Cyborg will appear in the film. At the end of his post, Wolfman provided a tease that Blade may release next year.

Whilst we still don’t have any information on who will be starring alongside Mahershala Ali in the film or who will be directing, a 2022 release date does add up. With filming set to begin later this year, it could be that Marvel Studios release Blade in the currently empty October 7th, 2022 release slot that Disney has planned for an MCU project.
If that is the case, you can expect more Blade news to appear in the coming months. If you want to stay up to date with all of the latest news and gossip from the MCU, sign up for the MCU Initiative newsletter to receive a daily update straight to your inbox.
