Marvel has today announced that the upcoming Black Widow has been delayed for the third time to July 9th. The film will now release in theaters and on Disney+ via Premier Access simultaneously.

The first solo outing for Scarlett Johansson’s titular superhero was originally slated to release last May but was delayed to November 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Black Widow was then pushed back for a second time to May 2021 when it became obvious that fans wouldn’t be able to watch the film in theaters.

In recent weeks we’ve seen conflicting reports on how and when Black Widow will release. Industry analysts have predicted a third delay is likely, however, Disney CEO Bob Chapek has stated he expects to film to release theatrically in May. Last week, the Chapek appeared to backpedal a little by stating that as conditions change, they will “remain flexible”.

In Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger. Directed by Cate Shortland and produced by Kevin Feige, the movie stars Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff. Florence Pugh stars as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov aka Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz as Melina Vostokoff.
