Black Widow will kick start phase four of the MCU in November (October in the UK), after being delayed from its May release due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Whilst much of the movie’s plot is still being kept a closely guarded secret, director Cate Shortland has confirmed one fan theory in a recent interview.
Ever since it was revealed that Black Widow will feature the character Yelena Belova, many fans have theorised that she will take on the Black Widow mantle. With Natasha Romanoff’s death during Avengers: Endgame, there’s a space for Yelena, played by Florence Pugh, to become Black Widow as she has appeared in Marvel comics.
In an interview with Empire, Cate Shortland has confirmed that Black Widow will setup Yelena to be the new Black Widow in future movies:
