While the recently released Black Widow seemingly closed the door on Natasha Romanoff’s time in the MCU, it also introduced to to several new characters who we may see more of in the upcoming phases.
CAUTION SPOILERS AHEAD
One of the most exciting additions was Natasha’s “sister”, Yelena Belova. As seen in the post credit scene, it is pretty much a foregone conclusion we will see Yelena, who is played by Florence Pugh, in the upcoming Disney+ series, Hawkeye.
Marvel boss Kevin Feige has also teased that both Rachel Weisz and David Harbour will be reprise their roles as Melina and Alexei, respectively.
One of the other characters introduced was Taskmaster. The movie took a turn away from the comics for the backstory of this character and left it open for more possibilities in the future.
In the movie, it’s revealed that Taskmaster is Antonia Dreykov, the daughter of the head of the Red Room, General Dreykov. Natasha thought she had killed Antonia when she assassinated Dreykov, but she’s been alive all this time.
Speaking to Digital Spy, Olga Kurylenko, who plays Antonia, revealed there is much more to tell with Antonia, so maybe this isn’t the end for the character.
“I love psychological, complicated things. Our minds are like that. In real life, we’re so complex, and there’s so much that we can think and understand. I think with her, it’s a very complicated place. It could be explored a lot more,”
At least if the character does return, Kurylenko will at least be able to talk about it. Commenting on keeping her role a secret, Olga had the following to say:
It was more tricky when people would mention it, or speak about it and I just had to pretend like, you know, ‘Oh, you know, yeah, I’ve heard of it. Whatever.’ And not to say it. Which felt like I’m almost maybe lying,” she recalled.
“But that was the deal. I couldn’t really say. I didn’t even tell my mother. She only found out like three days ago.
Black Widow is currently showing in Cinemas and also available to stream on Disney+ Premier Access.
