Black Widow was supposed to open in theatres back in May this year. Due to the global coronavirus pandemic, many projects were pushed back, including the theatrical release of Black Widow. After several delays, Marvel Studios took the decision to aim for a release date of May 2021, for the opening film of its upcoming Phase 4.
Despite the delays to the project, the anticipation for the movie is very high. Over the last month, there have been several little reveals for the movie. This is thanks to the release of the movies official book, Marvel Studios’ Black Widow: The Official Movie Special Book.
It has been known for a while that the main villain for the movie will be Taskmaster, who’s fighting styles are copied from several prominent MCU heroes. If you are unfamiliar with the character check out the video below which will give an insight into the character, based on what we know so far.
Johansson also stated recently that the mystery surrounding what happened in Budapest will finally be revealed.
Well, the latest tidbit of information is gleaned from a section of the book. O.T. Fagbenle, who will play a character called Mason in Black Widow, is described as someone who “can find anything you need.” He also hinted at his characters romantic relations with Scarlett Johansson’s, Black Widow.
Mason is a finder for people who aren’t so affiliated with armies, like people who are part of the underworld. He can find anything you need as well. He’s had a relationship doing that work for the Black Widow, and they have a bit of a vibe going on. There’s a sense that there’s more to their relationship than it being purely work-related, so that’s always in the mix.
Fagbenle also revealed details about Mason’s story arc in the movie stating he is the one that Romanoff turns to when she is in trouble. He also explained that Romanoff “definitely takes advantage” of Mason’s ability to “provide certain things” and is the kind of guy that “you want on your side if you get into a hard corner:”
Mason’s story starts when Natasha is trying to escape, and she needs a place to hide out. So we hang out for a little bit. And then later on, when she gets in trouble, she calls me up again. I help her out with a Chinook. If you need a helicopter, I’m the guy to ask, and then again every time she’s in trouble, she calls me.
Mason is the guy that you want on your side if you get into a hard corner. Natasha definitely takes advantage of the opportunities for him to provide certain things- she never really pays with cash and she doesn’t have credit either. She’s always like, “Yeah, put it on my tab.” It’s a pretty long tab by now! I’m a giver.
While we have not seen any information on Mason so far, and he has not been revealed in any of the footage or trailers yet, then we can only make assumptions as to how big a part the character will play. One thing we do know though is that we can’t wait to see how things unfold in the movie.
