After the tragic passing of lead actor Chadwick Boseman back in August, the project was put on hold to allow the cast and crew time to mourn. According to Hollywood Reporter, the project is preparing to move forward. Marvel has a planned date of July 2021 to begin filming.
We are yet to hear how the studio is planning to move forward with the titular character. There were rumours of the use of CGI for Boseman in Black Panther 2. Marvel’s Executive Vice President, Victoria Alonso has rebuked these claims stating:
No. There’s only one Chadwick and he’s not with us.
Our king, unfortunately, has died in real life, not just in fiction, and we are taking a little time to see how we return to history and what we do to honour this chapter of what has happened to us that was so unexpected, so painful, so terrible, really.
We also have news that Narcos: Mexico actor, Tenoch Huerta is in talks to play one of the villains of the movie. If he does join the project, he will be joined by returning actors Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke and Angela Bassett with Letitia Wright’s Shuri, expected to be taking in a larger role.
