During last week’s Disney Investor Day presentation, Kevin Feige provided MCU fans with several updates for the next iteration in the Ant-Man franchise. The first big update was the reveal of the film’s new title: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Feige also announced several cast members. As expected, stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer will all reprise their previous roles. One surprising announcement, however, was that Emma Fuhrmann’s role as the older Cassie Lang from Avengers: Endgame has been recast. The role will now be played by Kathryn Newton.
Many fans have been left wondering why the role of Cassie Lang has been recast. One possible reason could be that Cassie will have a larger part to play in the future of the MCU if the Young Avengers are introduced, which may be why Marvel has decided to go with a higher profile actor.
Days after Feige’s announcement, Emma Fuhrmann has broken her silence on the recasting of the role. Taking to Twitter, Fuhrmann thanked fans for their “kind messages”, whilst also revealing that she only learned of the news during Thursday’s presentation. You can read the actor’s Tweets below:
Whilst it’s sad that Fuhrmann won’t get the chance to play the role of Cassie Lang in the future, she will always be remembered for her two short scenes in Avengers: Endgame. The scene when Scott sees the grown-up Cassie for the first time after returning from the Quantum Realm left a lasting impression in many fans minds.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania doesn’t have a release date yet.
