Thursday’s Disney Investor Day presentation from Kevin Feige promised to provide some big MCU updates, and it definitely didn’t disappoint. In addition to the reveal of a host of new Disney+ series, Feige also provided an update on some previously revealed titles.
One of those updates was that the previous working title of Ant-Man 3 is no more. The official title for Scott Lang’s next adventure will be Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. The new title strongly suggests that the third film in the Ant-Man franchise will return to the Quantum Realm. A setting that will certainly be familiar with anyone that has seen Ant-Man and the Wasp and Avengers: Endgame.
Kevin Feige also confirmed that stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly and Michael Douglas will reprise their roles as Scott Lang, Hope Van Dyne and Hank Pym, respectively. He also confirmed that Michelle Pfeiffer will return as Janet Van Dyne. One role has been recast, however, with Big Little Lies‘ Kathryn Newton set to play Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang. The younger version of the role has previously been played by Abby Ryder Fortson. In Avengers: Endgame, the adult version of Cassie was played by Emma Furhmann once Scott emerged from the Quantum Realm.
One final announcement was the confirmation that Jonathan Majors has been cast as the film’s villain, Kang the Conqueror. We previously reported Majors’ casting in Ant-Man 3 in September.
In the comic books, Kang the Conqueror is a time traveller, who’s first appearance came in 1964’s The Avengers #8. There have been several alternate versions of Kang since his first appearance, but he has most frequently been depicted as an opponent of the Avengers and the Fantastic Four.
We don’t know which version of Kang the Conqueror will appear in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania at this point, but we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we hear more.
