It’s no secret that the Coronavirus pandemic has caused severe delays to phase four of the MCU. It’s now well over a year since fans received their last fix when Avengers: Endgame hit theatres to critical acclaim, but the long wait is almost over with Black Widow set to release in two months time.

Reports over recent weeks suggest that production is beginning to ramp up again on almost every phase four movie and Disney+ series. One of those projects is the third instalment of Ant-Man. Ant-Man 3 will see Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly reprise their roles as the tiny but powerful duo of Ant-Man and Wasp, and will also see Payton Reed return as director.

In a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, Reed was asked about the status of the upcoming Ant-Man movie. Reed replied:

We are working away through the pandemic. There’s some really really really exciting things in store, none of which of course I could speak to you about right now, as is the Marvel way…I think the third Ant-Man movie is going to be a much bigger, more sprawling movie than the first two. It’s going to have a very different visual template.

Ant-Man and the Wasp

Since both Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp took place almost exclusively in San Francisco, it’s won’t be hard to make the third film bigger in scope. Hopefully, we’ll get the chance to see Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne take on a bigger threat than they have faced in the previous two films.

One thing is for certain, the Ant-Man films have grown from a single hero to a double act. In another recent interview on Yahoo, Peyton Reed had the following to say about the pair:

They’re a partnership, and [The Wasp] a very, very important part of that. And that was a very gratifying thing, I guess technically we were the first Marvel movie with a female hero in the title of the movie. Finding that balance in that movie, that’s very important to me because that’s very much a men’s playing field, historically. But that’s really, really changing now in a great way.

The as yet untitled Ant-Man 3 film doesn’t have a release date yet.
