Updated: James Gunn has responded to the original source and debunked the below. As we hear more we will update you as always.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 gave fans a huge tease in the post credit scene and fans were excited at the prospect of seeing Adam Warlock enter the MCU. There has been quite a delay since then but we now have news that Marvel Studios are currently in the process of casting this role for the highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
One of the post credit scenes in GotG Vol 2 shown a disheveled Ayesha revealing a new birthing pod to the rest of the sovereign. Afterwards she stated this is, “The next step in our evolution, more powerful, more beautiful, and capable of destroying the Guardians of the Galaxy.” Ayesha then goes on to say they will call him Adam. This was a huge reveal and tease that we would be introduced to Adam Warlock.
The latest update on the character comes from The Illuminerdi who claim Marvel Studios is currently working to cast the Superhero, as filming will hopefully begin soon.
Not much else is revealed except that Marvel Studios are looking for a thirty year-old Caucasian man, who is described as both a “super hero type” and a “Zac Efron type”, as Adam Warlock.
There has been no confirmed plot details for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 but based on the post credit scene it would appear that Adam may be introduced as the antagonist to the Guardians team. It is surprising he hasn’t been introduced earlier considering his importance in the comics during the Infinity Gauntlet storyline.
During this storyline Adam was in fact a close ally to the Guardians and worked very closely with Gamora so it will be interesting to see how the character will fit into the story.
Whichever way the MCU play his story, I am sure most fans will be more than happy to see Adam introduced to the MCU. The film is due to start filming soon and will hit theatres sometime in 2023.
