With the launch of online streaming service Disney+, Marvel now has some huge opportunities to develop characters or introduce new ones without taking time from the big screen releases. Marvel has already released an impressive lineup for the Service, including WandaVision, Hawkeye, and Falcon and the Winter Soldier, who else would you like to see. Below we list 10 characters (In no particular order) that we would like to see get their own show. Some of these we have already met and some we would like to see.
10. Red Hulk
The Red Hulk was introduced in the comics is 2008. The same year as Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk was released. It was later revealed in the comics that it was actually General Thaddeus E. “Thunderbolt” Ross who we have seen in several MCU movies portrayed by William Hurt. There have been talks of the Red Hulk being introduced in both Captain America: Civil War and also in Avengers: Endgame. Director Joe Russo revealed the character’s transformation into the Red Hulk was considered during the production of Captain America: Civil War, but it was decided that there was not enough room in the narrative to substantiate that development. Maybe he could get a spin-off after his upcoming appearance in the Black Widow movie due out November his year? Or will we see him in the Disney+ Series She-Hulk which we will hopefully see in 2022?
9. Ghost Rider
O.K Ghost rider is a hit or miss character I will agree. The 2007 movie starring Nicholas Cage was met with negative reviews from critics but was a success in the box office. So much so that Cage reprised his role in 2012 for a follow-up film. In the MCU though Ghost rider was introduced as a recurring character in season 4 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, played by Gabriel Luna. A series was planned for Hulu, but this was canceled so maybe Disney+ will pick up the fiery, rider of Vengeance?
8. Daisy Johnson (Quake)
Like our previous entry Quake is another character from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D but has been in this show from the first series and is played by Chloe Bennet. Her story arc has been interesting but depending on what happens with the final series I feel there is more to see from her. There have been talks of her doing a spin-off with Ghost Rider but nothing has been confirmed.
O.K, I know Wolverine has had a huge amount of screen time over the years. Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of the mutton-chopped Anti-Hero pretty much paved the way for the MCU. That being said Jackman has admitted he will not play Wolverine again. There are already rumors flying around over who will play him next even though there is no planned X-Men or Wolverine movie in the Works. So could a show on Disney+ be the best way to introduce him into the MCU?
6. Howard the Duck
We can all pretty much agree, that the Howard the Duck movie released in 1986 is probably something that Marvel would rather forget about. The 15% score on Rotten Tomatoes should say it all. But the character has been seen in the MCU already in both Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1 and Vol 2, voiced by Seth Green. He was also spotted by eagle-eyed viewers in Endgame. This may mean nothing and simply be a recurring Easter egg but maybe Marvel plan to see how we react before the character gets his own outing?
5. Harley Keener
Harley Keener, played by Ty Simpkins, is the young boy who Helped Tony Stark in Iron Man 3. He later appeared at Tony Stark’s Funeral in Endgame, leaving many people wondering if this was just another cameo, or was there more to this? I have gone into more detail in this post about my theory regarding Harley Keener, and if I am right then I am more than looking forward to seeing more of him on the screen. especially if it leads to Young avengers forming.
4. Lady Sif
Lady Sif is an Asgardian Warrior and long time friend of Thor and the Warriors Three. Sif was seen in both Thor and the Sequel Thor: Dark World but was only mentioned in Thor: Ragnarok. For those who wanted to see more we did manage to see Sif in 2 episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, and played by Jaimie Alexander, in both movies and series. I feel there is so much more this character has to offer so could we get to see her in the upcoming, Thor: Love and Thunder. Personally I would like to see her in her own show and delve a little more into the past. After all, in the comics she is the sister of Heimdall ……
3. Talos the Untamed
Talos is the Shape-shifting leader of the Skrull invasion of Earth in Captain Marvel. He is played by Ben Mendelsohn, who uses his natural Australian accent while in his Skrull form and an American accent when in his Human guise of Nick Fury’s boss, Keller. He manages to go from antagonist to Ally and we can’t help but like him. He is also seen in the end credit scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home which just leads to more questions. If he has been on Earth for over 20 years, who has he been impersonating during that time?
Korg is in my opinion one of the funniest characters in the MCU. Why would you not want more of him….?? Korg is a Kronan, a semi-humanoid race that have stone like hides. In Thor:Ragnarok he is an ally of Thor along with his friend Miek, but in the comics he is actually a friend and ally of Hulk while they are trapped on the Red Planet. Finding out about how Korg and Miek wound up in the custody of the Grandmaster on Sakaar could be interesting.
There are rumors that Nova was being introduced on several occasions. Most notably in Guardians of the Galaxy, when the Guardians are on Xandar and fighting alongside the Nova Corps. Richard Rider (Nova) is the Nova Prime and his powers would be on a similar if not higher level to Captain Marvel. He has been a member of both the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers. Whether he is introduced in a series or in one of the upcoming movies, I think he would be a great addition to the MCU.
Honourable Mention – Grandmaster
Thor: Ragnarok was undoubtedly the best film in the Thor franchise to date and the Grandmaster, played by Jeff Goldblum, was in my opinion really underplayed. He is after all one of the ageless Elders of the Universe and brother to the Collector from Guardians of the Galaxy. I feel we have not seen the last of him but would love to see a series, showing the events leading up to the Contest of Champions in Thor: Ragnarok. The Tower is made up of various Marvel Characters as discussed here that would be a shame to let go to waste.
Do you agree with the above list? If not let us know of anyone you would like to see more of or someone you would like to in the MCU who is not there yet. Maybe you want to see more villains or even the Dark Avengers?
